The first two days were filled with listening to stories, writing about our summer, multiplication fact practice, math skills inventory, and cooperative group activities that focus on our 4 Classroom Rules:

HOMEWORK: (Return blue homework folder every day)

1. This week, students will begin with reading for 20 min each night.  All 4 entries on the reading log must be filled out, signed, and will be checked on Friday. 

2. Additionally, students will work on a half-sheet of multiplication facts. It is to be completed at home and completed within 1 minute. If they don't finish all the problems in 1 minute, have them finish the remainder of the problems.

Reminders:

1. Drop off in the morning for 3rd grade is in the front of the school.

2. Parent volunteers in the class will not begin until Monday, Aug. 31st. 

3. AR testing will start on Monday.

First Day of 3rd Grade and Pictures

I wanted to share how wonderful the first day of school has been. Today was packed with procedures and expectations to help set your child up for success, along with an All About Me paper and writing about their summer vacation.  Thank you all for entrusting me with your amazing child! These kiddos are respectful, kind, and eager to help each other, which truly makes my job easy peasy. Please check out all the first-day pictures below!

Welcome to the 26/27 School Year of 3rd Grade

 Welcome to 3rd Grade Team Urban,

I hope you all had a relaxing yet fun-filled summer! It is going to be an awesome year of learning and growing together. I look forward to filling the year with exciting and new learning experiences for everyone, but most of all, to ensure your child's success in 3rd grade.

I look forward to meeting everyone on Aug. 6th and beginning our 3rd-grade journey together this year!  Good and consistent communication among the teacher, parents, and the child sets us all up for a successful year. This website is where you can check for learning targets and updates for the class.  It is imperative to check for classroom developments and announcements that will be posted at the end of each week.  

You all should have received an envelope in the mail containing a few things. Please send back to school the highlighted papers below:

• About the teacher letter
• About your student form for them to fill out (on the first day)
• Getting to Know You form for parent(s) to fill out and return (on the first day)

Also, please have your child bring in a picture of their family. This will be going up in the class for students to have family faces to look at for heartwarming comfort.

The first two days of school will consist of establishing relationships and familiarizing students with expectations and procedures throughout the day, including a quick review of the ROAR expectations. ROAR is an acronym for our school-wide and classroom expectations.

• R - Respect Self, Others, and Property
• O - Own your Actions
• A - Act Safely
• R - Rise to Servant Leadership

These terms will serve as a common language in our classroom, along with teaching students about the 8 Key Strategies that we encourage them to implement into their daily lives.

Here is the 3rd-grade suggested school supply list.

Supply List:  

• 1 standard-sized pencil box labeled with your child’s name

• Six #2 pencils (Ticonderoga brand, SHARPENED please)

• Pair of scissors

• 10 count Crayola Markers

• 3 large black Expo dry-erase markers 

• 4 thin yellow highlighters

• One set of earbuds or headphones with your child’s name 

Please ensure all of your child’s supplies are in their pencil box and ready to use before coming into class. Thank you!

This second full week of school, students really stretched their brains by learning new things such as commutative property and division, responding to Literature by citing evidence, and taking our first spelling and reading test.

Learning new things can sometimes create challenges. Challenges we may have never had before. Reinforce at home that mistakes and challenges help us to grow and learn. Thank you for all your support at home, as our partnership makes your child more successful throughout the year.

 Team Urban,

Our first full week of school is complete with much success!  This past week, students' mindsets were challenged through benchmark assessments in ELA and Math, along with timed multiplication fact practice, Leadership, and Library. Students will be able to begin checking out books this Wednesday when we visit the Library.

Room Mom/Volunteers: Our Room Mom for Team Urban is Mrs. Glavez and Mrs. Aldama (Colbie's and Ava's mom). You will be hearing from them soon.

If you signed up to volunteer in the classroom, please join us in class this week.  I will be sending out emails this weekend to work out times for the days you signed up. Try to give me a heads-up if you can not make it that day.

Also, students will work on a 1/2 sheet of multiplication facts. It is to be completed at home and worked on with a page protector to erase and time themselves each time.  I provided them with a page protector and an expo marker today.  Have them practice several times and then the final time can be in pencil.  

If students don't return their math sheet, they will complete another one at recess the next day.
