Team Urban,
We had a terrific first full week of school. We had our first couple math lessons, Spanish, set goals, attended Back to School Night, first house shirt day, and best of all, we WON Lucy the Lion right out of the gate today. You may wonder what it takes for us to win. It takes all of us as a team wearing our ILCS shirts and showing spirit and enthusiasm when student council comes around Friday mornings.
Along with all of the above, students also completed their STAR reading, ELA, and math benchmarks this week. Feel free to log onto Pearson to check ELA and math benchmark scores, along with the questions and answers. These will also come home on Friday, August 30th, for review, signature, and return. The first question I usually get from parents seeing these benchmark/test scores is, "What can I/we do to help my child at home?" Here are a few suggestions:
1. Ensure nightly reading
2. Study math facts
3. Encourage growth mindset
4. See additional math practice on Pearson that is assigned to each child at the beginning of each Topic pretest. It is not mandatory, however, it does provide extra videos and PDF sheets for your child to do at home for problems they missed on their pretest for each math topic.
VOLUNTEERS:
Volunteers will start this Monday if possible. See the times below for the time you signed up. I still have a few time slots open. If you missed the chance to sign up, please email me if you are able to fill in on the open times. I will be deciding on a room mom this week.
