Week 9 Oct. 8-12

Team Urban,

Students continued to RACE respond this week as a group and individually.  I know the explanation portion of RACE can be difficult sometimes.  The explanation sentence is a statement or two making a connection as to why the evidence supports their answer. Please remember this is still a work in progress and we are working towards mastery.  We may not be there yet, but we will continue working on our response to reading in class each week.

THIS WEEK:

ELA: students will continue working on main idea and supporting details in literature while finishing Treasure in the Trees.
Treasure in the Trees test on Friday.

Writing: Narrative writing

Math: Topic 4 Post Test on FRIDAY. Please have your child review and rework the pretest by Friday. I will be sending home an a paper called "Managing your Mastery." This tool will help them structure their Pretest evidence for Topic 4 due by Friday.

Science: We began our exploration stations in Magnetism this week. Student discovered different strengths of magnets and explored with magnetism through objects.  






HOMEWORK
Google Classroom: Due every Friday morning
Fact Practice: Due every day
Reading: every night for 20 minutes minimum.  If your child has yet to meet their goal, their nightly and weekend minutes need to be increased. (reading logs checked every Friday)


FIELD TRIP: 3rd grade is going on their first field trip to the Safari Park in Escondido, Ca.  The permission slip went home last week so please sign and return it as soon as possible. 
-When: Oct. 29th
-Time: Arrive at 6:30am in our classroom
-Depart school: 6:45am on one bus
-Return time: 4:00pm (depending on traffic)
-Items to bring: small backpack, sack lunch, walking shoes, ILCS shirt, water, sunscreen.
-Transportation: 1 bus

Answers to some frequently asked questions are below:

-Can I drive my child to and from? -Yes, the more the merrier. WE are actually encouraging you to do so for this field trip.
-Can I drive my child's friend?-Only if their parent is in the car as well.
-Can I just drive my child straight tp the Safari Park without coming to school at 6:30 a.m.?-No.  You and your child must check in with me at school and then sign them out into your custody at school. 
-Can I go if I am not picked as a chaperone?- Yes. The cost is $15 exact cash payment to your child's teacher by Oct. 26th.  If it is not paid by then, it will be full price on the day of the trip.
-Can siblings go?-As long as they are in your care and you are not an assigned chaperone.
-Can I bring a sibling if I am a chaperone?-No.
-Can I stay with my child at the Safari Park when the school leaves?-Yes, as long as you meet us at the time/place of departure to sign your child over to your supervision.
-Can I/husband be a chaperone?-Yes, as long as you/husband have your current Megan's Law clearance on file in the office.
-How do I let you know I want to chaperone?-Sign bottom of permission slip.
-How will I know if I am a chaperone?-I will notify you by person or email as soon as all permission slips are turned in.
-Do I need to ride the bus if I am a chaperone?-No but it is recommended and expected that you are there upon our arrival at Safari Park if you chose to drive yourself.
