Week 2 8/21

Team Urban rocked our first full week of school.  Students' mindsets were challenged with several assessments this week in ELA, Math, STAR Reading and Writing. 

Here is a picture of some students while they are writing.  The whole class is focused and on task!


Thank you to all the Team Urban Families for a surprising birthday treat on Friday of a decorated door, special treats and cards, and the best of all...Hugs!  Here are a few pics of the love from these sweet kids!

 



This Week:

-Solar eclipse gizmo activity on computers inside.  We will be on inclement weather schedule.  That means that recess will be indoors.  Here is a permission slip to fill out and return tomorrow to have your child participate in outside viewing activity.

-Students will learn about Google Classroom, where our weekly writing homework will be found, begin our first lessons in ELA and math. 

-ELA:
Read Location, Location, Location 
Begin to discuss how readers understand the characters' motivations and the effects of their actions and how writers write about characters and show the sequence of events in a story.
Conventions: nouns
Writing: narrative

-Math:
Begin Topic #1 understand multiplication and division of hole numbers
-Homework:
Will begin September 5th, but please feel free to have kiddos complete nightly reading and multiplication practice. Students have been practicing their multiplication facts all week and many are already leveling up. 

-Room Mom:
Our Room Mom is Mrs. Crandell, Gideon's mom.  She will help set up and organize field trips, class parties, and all the little things in between.  Thank you Mrs .Crandell for volunteering your time for such an important role in our classroom!
