Week of March 6th

Happy Sunday,

We had a spirited week last week! I enjoyed seeing their wacky outfits, favorite book character choices, and we ended our week in pj's with 2nd trimester awards. We also had our in-class Spelling Bee, and our finalist was Jamison Blackburn and Ryan Mack is our alternate. I know these two will BEE excellent representatives for our class! Feel free to come support them on March 16th at 6:00pm. See pictures below from the awards assembly. These are awards for Running Club, 2nd trimester perfect attendance, and leadership.

With second trimester student-led conferences coming up, it is important to remember there will not be one on one conferences this trimester.  Students will be taking the lead and discussing their own progress through the year with specific regard to the 2nd trimester.  Student led conferences will be available for you and your child to come in the classroom on the following day and times: Thursday, March 23 1:30-4.  If you are unable to make it that day, your child's work and report card will go home with them on Friday, March 24.

Our focus this week will be:

Continue reading Brave Girl. We will discuss how readers learn about a topic through literary and informational texts. We will also dicuss how writers support their point of view with reasons and evidence.
Conventions: pronouns, abstract nouns, prefixes and base words
 Spelling: suffixes
Writing: continue working on our facts and opinions, and begin working on student-led conferences.
Math

Continue Topic #12 understand fractions as numbers
Continue our Fact Master multiplication tests. It is imperative students study and complete these at home nightly for a few minutes for successful mastery of their multiplication facts.
