Spirit Week-Feb. 27

Happy Sunday!

Wow!  All I can say is WOW!  These students had a long week of testing last week and they have come a long way.  Just to give you some data, in STAR Reading our class average has grown from 3.3 (August) to a 5.0 (Feb.)!! That is over 1 1/2 grades of growth in two trimesters!  Getting our kiddos to realize their potential and achieve it is a challenge we all face.  It is was drives me as a teacher; to get each student to realize and achieve their potential.  Each student does it in their own time.  To help get them there, each day we establish criteria for success and discuss what it looks like for each lesson/goal, so that during the lesson, our kiddos can measure how successful they are going to be. As we begin this last trimester, please ask your kiddo what success looks like to them to reach their goals, whether it be an AR goal, behavior goal, math goal, etc. Help me to encourage them this last trimester as students prepare to be 4th graders!

Below is a picture of our 2nd trimester AR goal achievers.

Next week is Spirit Week! Please remember that if your kiddo is not participating in Spirit Week, they must continue to dress within Dress for Success Policy.

Monday- Career Day- Dress as your future career.

Tuesday- Tropical Tuesday- Wear your most Hawaiian beachy garb.

Wednesday- Wacky Tacky Wednesday- Wear your mismatchiest, wild, and crazy patterns and clothing together.

Thursday-Read Across America Day- Dress as your favorite Book Character.

-It is also the awards assembly for 2nd trimester.  You will be notified this week if your child is receiving an award.
-Book Exchange for CSC.  Donate your read books to get tickets for new books!

Our focus this week will be:
Read Back of the Bus, Rosa, and begin Brave Girl. We will discuss how readers learn about a topic through literary and informational texts. We will also discuss how writers support their point of view with reasons and evidence.
Conventions: nouns, suffixes and base words,
 Spelling: ei, eigh
Writing: finish our compare and contrast and begin working on our opinion paper.
Math
Continue Topic #12 understand fractions as numbers
Students have a 6 school days left to review their PRETopic 12 test before we take the POST Topic to help ensure success.

Homework
Please remind your kiddo to write the date in their Reading Log and turn in their math fact practice each day. I remind the kiddos of this weekly, and I am still seeing Reading Logs that are missing a date, not complete, and math fact papers that are not turned in daily. Please know that for each missing homework assignment, students are fined class cash and finish it at recess. Homework has been the expectation from August, and most are reaching that expectation, but a handful are being fined each week and are running low on cash.

Due every day:  -Reading 20 minutes (put on reading log date and sign)
           -Daily Fact Practice paper

Due on Friday:  -Writing assigned and submitted through Moby Max.  This week students will be writing about their top 3 goals for 3rd trimester and how they will measure their success for each goal.

Have a great week and please email me if you have any questions!

Lovingly,
Mrs. Urban
