Week of Sept. 12

Hello Families,

I hope you are all enjoying your day today as we remember the victims and the heroes of Sept. 11th. We will ALWAYS remember!

Electives begin tomorrow and Success Academy takes place on Wednesday and Thursday. Math (room 3) is scheduled for Wednesday and ELA (room 5) will take place on Thursday. All third grade kiddos are scheduled to be picked up on Avenue D. If you would prefer your third grader meet an older sibling, please notify the Success or Elective teacher personally.
Our focus this week will be:
  1. Applying character actions and motivations, sequence of events, citing textual evidence, temporal words, setting, plot, theme, point of view and compare and contrast to various reading passages.
  2. Spelling: Long Vowel Patterns ee, ea, ai, ay, oa, ow
  3. Conventions: irregular plurals, verbs, verb functions, and irregular verbs
  4. Writing: narrative
Math
  1. Multiply by: 0, 1, 2, 5, 9, 10 and review for an assessment on Friday
  2. We will also continue our Fact Master multiplication assessments. Students will practice in class each day on their level and then take a one minute timed test.  Students will bring home a blank copy to practice nightly. It is imperative students study these at home for successful mastery of their multiplication facts.
Homework recap (nightly/weekly) in case you missed it in the flip book (last page):
Due every day:  -Reading 15 minutes (put on reading log)
-Daily Fact Practice paper (sent home and return daily)

Due on Friday:  -Writing instructions on Moby Max writing assignments
                              -Spelling practice (see words below)

PLEASE NOTE: As I use the rubric for the weekly writing in Moby Max, please remember their grade assigned to them is not a grade I am recording for a writing grade.  It is strictly used for weekly feedback and to show growth in writing each week.

Last, we will be going on our first field trip to the Wild Animal Safari Park on Oct. 28.  I am asking, if possible, you can drive your child (and get home faster) as we are only taking one bus.  The buses are the bulk of the cost of this field trip.  When I send home permission slips, later in the month, please indicate on the permission slip that you would like to drive your child.  More to come on the field trip later this month.

Have a great week and enjoy this cute pic of our class in front of our newly decorated class door from our room mom!

Lovingly.
Mrs. Urban
